KB 340102

KB 340102: Reports fail to open after installation, permission errors

After installing our ACS reporting solutions some customers get access errors when attempting to view reports.

Issue: Users unable to access Reports

Symptoms: Access denied error

Cause: Insufficient privileges to run report or access database

Scope: User accounts other than account used to install the reports may have this problem

Product/s: Audit Collection Base Reporting, Audit Collection Compliance Reporting, Audit Collection Archiver Historical Reports

Resolution

Identify cause and take corrective action

Three scenarios can impact user account report access:

  1. The Network User Account has insufficient rights to access the Report Server. This may be due to any number of security reasons: Group Policy, access times outside time range, etc. If the user can access some reports, but not others, this is most likely not the case.

  2. The user does not have the proper role based security to access the report from within Reporting Services. Granting the user the correct role should resolve this issue.

  3. The user account used to access the data from the Database does not have sufficient rights from within the Audit Collection database. · If using Integrated Security accounts to run the reports, it is easiest to create a new security group on the Domain, add accounts to the security group, and grant that security group rights to the database. · If using a “credentials stored securely in the report server” defined in the report server data source, ensure the “Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source” check box is selected and the particular account has rights to the database.
